Abortion Worker Quits at Photos of Preborn: ‘What in the World Have I Been Doing?’

By Sarah Terzo
Live Action News

Former abortion worker Ruth Yorstan told her story at a 2012 conference sponsored by The Pro-Life Action League. Her parents were strongly pro-abortion; her father wrote pro-abortion editorials, and her mother went to pro-abortion marches before ultimately accepting a job at an abortion facility.

Yorstan was just out of high school when her mother asked her to work at the abortion facility, too. Yorstan says, “I once said I took the job without thinking twice. The truth is I took the job without thinking once….” She was completely ignorant about the business of the abortion facility. She says:

So the girls would come up, and as quickly as possible, you would separate the girls seeking the abortions from their support network… I was the receptionist so my job – I was the first person they see. My job was to welcome them, make sure they had a place to sit, give them something to drink, calm their nerves. And that’s what I did.

Yorstan knew nothing about abortion or fetal development. But she was happy to be working with her mother. She worked as a receptionist at the facility for about a year, but never went downstairs where the abortions were committed. She never saw an aborted baby or heard a suction machine.

During her time at the abortion facility, Yorstan was very religious. She attended church regularly and read her bible at the facility. Yorstan says that at church:

No one confronted me, or had the opportunity to confront me, and we never heard from the pulpit. …. We talked about all sorts of other things that we shouldn’t do. In my tradition, don’t smoke, don’t chew, don’t hang with them that do. We didn’t drink, we didn’t smoke, we didn’t swear, we didn’t dance, we didn’t play cards. We didn’t do a lot of things. And we didn’t talk about life.

Yorstan was a devout Christian planning to attend bible college, despite working in the abortion industry. She began dating a young Christian man, and one night, when he was driving her home, she told him where she worked.

The young man, a youth pastor, was shocked. But he did not visibly react or jump out of the car. After dropping Yorstan off at her parents’ house, he spent some time in prayer, and decided to try and convince Yorstan to leave the facility. Yorstan says:

He showed up on my doorstep unexpectedly and said, “I have a little book. Would you be willing to read this? I don’t want to talk about it today but would you be willing to read this and will talk about it this weekend when we go out for dinner?” I said sure. I’ll read it.

Designs by Birgit – One Woman’s Way to Spread the Pro-Life Message

Have you ever wondered where those pro-life memes come from? Who creates them? I know I have, and over the years I have shared many on our pro-life social media pages and in our pro-life groups. Recently I had the honor to  correspond with a woman who creates so many of these wonderful memes.  She graciously agreed to allow me to share her story.

Birgit Atherton Jones resides in Western Kentucky with her husband. Birgit was in high school when Roe v Wade was being discussed and unfortunately became law. She tells me that one of her senior debate topics was on abortion, and doing her research, she took the pro-life side. She also has a personal story and says that being pro-life is not just a theory – when life happens, it needs to be lived out. You can read her story,
14 and Pregnant – Is My Life Ruined? using this link.   This was the beginning of her 40+ years of pro-life advocacy.

After college, Birgit began writing letters to the editor on the pro-life issue. This she states, resulted in a job offer. She was asked to consider being the first executive director of her local Right to Life group.

After some debate and much consideration (she had a husband, a dying mother and three children at home depending on her), she agreed. This opportunity took her to serving as Field Representative for a pro-life US Congressman. Birgit wore many hats, again taking on the responsibility of executive director, editor of a newspaper, and founding member as well as vice-president of another pro-life group. “You can see that God works in mysterious ways and turns tragedy into triumph”, says Birgit, “He certainly has worked His grace in my life!”

I asked Birgit what motivated her to start creating pro-life memes, she said, “as an art major, I have a BA in art, and wanted to do something creative but up-to-date. Since I take many photos, I first used my own photographs of family to create my memes. Sometimes a generous friend or social media acquaintance will offer photos of their own children.” She now utilizes public use photos as well. She further stated, “allowing the Holy Spirit to guide me, I often get an overwhelming urge to create - right now Memes and writing are my outlets.”

“Since I try to make it a point to use a softer approach, I hope to change hearts and educate” Birgit replied when asked what she hopes to accomplish by her memes. “My friendship with several post-abortive women helps me to understand that kindness and understanding, as well as factual sources information, is where I am most comfortable” she further states.

Birgit mentioned that some of her memes were translated into Portuguese for use in Brazil by the sister group  Save the 1. She also initiated, and was approved by her diocese, to make displays with poster sized versions of her memes for 40 Days for Life. This initiative then spread to other dioceses in other states.

When asked if there were any message she would like to tell the public, Birgit stated, “The way I look at it is this: The more we share and communicate the pro-life message, the more changes there are for true conversion to the cause.” She went to on to state, “by factual education and appealing images and words, we can change hearts. Our opposition is often ill-informed or bears scars from past pain.” Birgit then says, ‘If we approach with love and truth, they may just begin to see their error. It is not just up to some of us to work at this. We need to convince the world to share in evangelizing for LIFE. Attractive memes, that are virally shared, can be a wonderful tool in accomplishing this objective. The more eyes, the more prospects we have.”

Birgit recently published an article (you can read this article here), offering her pro-life memes to anyone who wishes to use them.   She asks that the proper attribution is made when sharing.  She says that it multiplies exposure of the message if others also share directly from her links.

Birgit’s memes can be found on Facebook using this link (she has over 600 pro-life memes on this page), on Pinterest by clicking here,  and on Twitter using this link.  Click here to connect with Birgit on Instragram,  and here to connect on Linkedin. BreakPoint: When Children “Choose” to Die

by John Stonestreet & Roberto Rivera
BreakPoint

All must be sacrificed for the demon-gods “autonomy” and “choice.” This is why they are killing children in Belgium.

In 2014, Belgium, which already had perhaps the most permissive euthanasia laws in the world, amended those laws to permit doctors to euthanize children.

As is always the case, the rationale was a mixture of wooly thinking: a professed desire to alleviate suffering and a belief that children, some as young as nine, have the requisite emotional and intellectual capacity to choose to end their lives.

This is lethal nonsense, as Charles Lane of the Washington Post has repeatedly pointed out.

Lane’s most recent column on the subject was prompted by a July report issued by the Belgian agency that regulates euthanasia.

According to the report, between the start of 2016 and the end of 2017, Belgian doctors euthanized three children, one of them only nine years old and another eleven years old.

A member of the commission told Lane the law was strictly followed. He said, “I saw mental and physical suffering so overwhelming that I thought we did a good thing.”

Helping Pro-life Employees #defundPlannedParenthood

Alexandra Snyder, Executive Director
Life Legal Defense Foundation

A public school teacher contacted Life Legal a few days ago expressing concern that her union dues were being used to promote a pro-abortion agenda. She felt pressured by her peers and unions reps to stay in the union, but we told her she has the right to OPT OUT of paying dues that fund Planned Parenthood and its allies.

The National Education Association (NEA), with over 3 million members, is the nation’s largest and arguably most powerful union. The NEA holds nearly $400 million in assets and spends its members' dues on pro-abortion candidates, initiatives, and organizations—including Planned Parenthood.

In June of this year, the United States Supreme Court handed down a major victory for free speech for all public employees. In Janus v. AFSCME, several employees in Illinois challenged the mandatory fee they paid to their public-sector union. The employees argued that they were forced to pay for political activities in furtherance of positions supported by the Union even though they themselves were adamantly opposed to these political positions. It was insufficient to reduce their mandatory contribution to a “fair share” amount because there was no way to accurately account for what monies were used for political and other activities as opposed to “neutral” collective bargaining activities.

In a scathing opinion authored by Justice Alito and joined by four other justices, the Court made it very clear that forcing union members to support organizations and opinions that violate their beliefs is unconstitutional:

  • “We have held time and again that freedom of speech includes both the right to speak freely and the right to refrain from speaking at all.”
  • "Compelling individuals to mouth support for views they find objectionable violates that cardinal constitutional command, and in most contexts, any such effort would be universally condemned."
  • "Forcing free and independent individuals to endorse ideas they find objectionable is always demeaning,"
  • "For these reasons, States and public-sector unions may no longer extract agency fees from nonconsenting employees."

Many union members’ personal beliefs are directly opposed to the positions taken by their union and supported by their union dues. For example, organizations and candidates that support pro-abortion policies often receive a disproportionate amount of union campaign contributions. According to a new study by the Center for Union Facts, 99% of union political contributions go to left-wing, pro-abortion causes. The study showed that major labor unions sent $1.3 billion to these groups over the past seven years. Planned Parenthood is one of the top ten groups that receive union funding.

For those who are pro-life and employed in a public sector union, the Supreme Court’s decision represents a new era of freedom. You can exercise your conscience rights and your money can now go to support political positions with which you agree.

If you or someone you know has been pressured, harassed, or threatened to keep from opting out of a union—or if the union has made it difficult for you to exercise your right to opt out, please contact Life Legal at 707.224.6675 or email us at info@lldf.org.

The mission of Life Legal Defense Foundation (LLDF) is to give innocent and helpless human beings of any age, particularly unborn children, a trained and committed defense against the threat of death, and to support their advocates in the nation’s courtrooms. LLDF will accomplish its mission and purpose through the law and education.

Irish Catholic Organization Takes Stand, Refuses To Host Pro-Abortion Politicians

by Limbi Banda

Human Defense Initiative

Last month, the American branch of the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), an Irish Catholic organization, chose to “not invite” Irish politicians to their annual convention who voted to repeal Ireland’s life-affirming 8th Amendment.

Prior to the repeal of the 8th Amendment, Ireland was one of the most pro-life countries in the world. In the wake of growing Irish distrust in the influence of a Church whose reputation has been tarnished and sullied by moral and political crisis, and the impending legalization of abortion, the US branch of the AOH has taken a stand. AOH refuses to host the leader of Sinn Fein, Mary Lou McDonald, who supported the repeal.

Ms. McDonald was subject to some protest in June, following the May referendum when the pro-life group Precious Life protested her party’s position on abortion.

The US branch of the AOH has invited Ms. McDonald to speak at prior conventions but Sinn Fein’s pro-abortion message is not in line with the AOH’s pro-life principles. The US branch of the AOH clearly set forth those principles in a resolution affirming the dignity of the preborn and the value of all human life.

Other pro-life groups have commended the American branch of the Ancient Order of Hibernians for taking a stand against the Irish government’s radical pro-abortion agenda.

Haskell Ordered to Close Abortion Center

Court Gives Dayton Abortion Facility 30 Days to Close

by Mark Harrington
Created Equal

Aug 23, 2018 – Columbus, OH – Notorious abortionist Martin Haskell’s Dayton, OH area abortion facility has been ordered to close. For years, Created Equal’s ProjectWeakLink has partnered with local activists to seek closure of the doors of this facility and others run by Haskell. In 2016, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) ordered Haskell to close the Dayton facility. However, Haskell entered litigation, during which Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Mary Wiseman ruled he could stay open. That lawsuit, however, has come to end. Judge Wiseman has ruled in favor of ODH’s previous decision and has given Haskell 30 days to close or appeal.

For years, Martin Haskell, infamous for his popularization of the partial-birth abortion procedure, has skirted Ohio law requiring abortion facilities to have a transfer agreement with a local hospital. In 2015, Created Equal targeted Haskell’s relationship with Wright State Physicians (WSP) group—driving mobile billboards throughout Dayton, OH and mailing postcards to neighbors of WSP members enabling Haskell—by which he’d received a variance to operate without the transfer agreement.

In 2016, Haskell failed to secure the needed physicians to support his variance. Thus, his facility license for the Dayton abortion facility was revoked by the Ohio Department of Health (ODH). Jennifer Branch, Haskell’s attorney, credited Created Equal’s ProjectWeakLink with the decision. From the Associated Press story,

The anti-abortion group Created Equal had launched a campaign aimed at calling out doctors involved in abortions, which included posters, mailers and vehicles circulating through the doctors’ neighborhoods publicizing their names.

Other ob/gyn’s in the community saw what was going on and didn’t want to be part of it,’ Branch said.

Haskell’s facility entered into an appeal following the license revocation, and Judge Wiseman ruled it could stay open during litigation. Now, Wiseman has ruled in favor of ODH’s previous decision. The clinic must close within 30 days unless an appeal is filed.

Mark Harrington wrote, “Unlike the babies Haskell kills, the courts have continued to give him life. However, he is running out of options. Created Equal has been part of this battle for years and will continue to do so irrespective of the decisions of Judges.”

Stay tuned for updates!

Operation Rescue Introduces Abortion911.com to Prove Abortion Isn't Safe

Wichita, Kansas - Operation Rescue has launched a new web site, Abortion911.org, that documents medical emergencies at abortion facilities for the purpose of helping the public understand that abortions are not as safe as the abortionists say they are.

"Help us prove that abortion is not safe. We know it kills babies and hurts women, but the public needs to see documented reports to overcome the propaganda of the left that says abortion is a 'human right,' instead of the human rights abuse that it really is," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue.

The website also is seeking photos, videos, documentation, and eyewitness accounts of medical emergencies at abortion facilities to add to the ever-expanding number of reports.

For several years, Operation Rescue has collected photos, videos, and 911 reports related to medical emergencies that take place at abortion facilities. Our database of such incidents has been considered the most comprehensive available. However, it is understood that this is only a fraction of medical emergencies that occur at abortion facilities.

Our data has been used to:
  • Promote the passage pro-life legislation at the state level.
  • Support pro-life laws in court.
  • File complaints against abortion facilities that have resulted in disciplinary action and closed abortion facilities.
  • Expose the dangers of abortion to the public.

"This site could have a lasting impact on public opinion and legal cases regarding abortion. Abortionists toss out numbers on so-called 'abortion safety' that have little, if any, documentation to back them up. We want Abortion911.com to serve as an easily-accessible repository of incidents that can provide hard evidence of abortion dangers," said Newman.

The "Check Your State" tag cloud feature is a resource that allows a user to easily see the reports related to abortion-related medical emergencies in any state for which there are documented incidents. The size of a state's font is directly related to the number of documented emergencies reported to Operation Rescue.

There is also a featured page with links to reports concerning abortion-related maternal deaths covered by Operation Rescue.

"Our eyes and ears on the ground have always been those involved in ministry outside the abortion facilities, and we need your eyes and ears more than ever," said Newman. "By contributing to this new project, you can help influence our nation in favor of Life and move us closer to the goal of an abortion-free America."

To report incidents at abortion facilities that led to emergency responses and/or ambulance transports, please e-mail us at ReportAbortion911@zoho.com.

"There are those who are desperate to stop this documentation of life-threatening abortion dangers from reaching the public. Let's not let them win!" said Newman.

Abortion911.com joins Operation Rescue's suite of websites, including OR's main informational site, OperationRescue.org, and the resource site AbortionDocs.org, the largest online collection of documents related to abuses within the Abortion Cartel.

Operation Rescue is one of the leading pro-life Christian activist organizations in the nation and has become a strong voice for the pro-life movement in America. Operation Rescue is now headquartered in a former abortion clinic that it bought and closed in 2006. From there, Operation Rescue launches its innovative new strategies across the nation, exposing and closing abortion clinics through peaceful, legal means. Its activities are on the cutting edge of the abortion issue, taking direct action to stop abortion and ultimately restore legal personhood to the pre-born in obedience to biblical mandates. For more information or to make a donation to help them with their work, please use this link.
