A Baby's Breath’s primary mission is to "help a mother to see her child take his/her first breath”. It is a safe place where mothers, fathers, and families can talk freely without being judged and where they can hear the truth from a voice filled with compassion and hope. Through their pregnancy counseling sessions with our volunteers, mothers learn about the life developing inside of them and are given the opportunity to discuss and focus on their life goals.

The center, under the guidance of our new director, Marianne Thompson and our general manager, Anne Ruegner offers free pregnancy counseling, pre-natal classes, parenting classes, material assistance, and GED tutoring. 

We recently received an ultrasound machine donated by the Knights of Columbus Regina Mundi Council. The ultrasound room will be dedicated to St. Gianna through the St. Gianna Society at Nativity of Our Lord parish in Warminster on April 28th at 3PM. There will be notices and invitations sent out. We are celebrating our 1 year Anniversary this week.

 Currently our hours are Monday and Wednesday 1:00-3:30 and Friday 9:30-12:00. We have also begun holding parenting classes on the third Tuesday of the month at 7:30PM.

The Ambitions of Bill and Melinda Gates: Controlling Population and Public Education

Continuing their commitment to controlling global population growth through artificial contraception, sterilization, and abortion initiatives, Microsoft founder and philanthropist, Bill Gates and his wife, Melinda, a self-described “practicing” Catholic, are now attempting to control the curriculum of the nation’s public schools. Subsidizing the Common Core State Standards in English language arts and mathematics, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has committed more than $76 million to support teachers in implementing the Common Core—a standardized national curriculum.   This, on top of the tens of millions they have already awarded to the National Governor’s Association and the Council of Chief State School Officers to develop the Common Core in the first place.

Working collaboratively with the Obama administration, the Gates Foundation subsidized the creation of a national curriculum for English and mathematics that has now been adopted by 46 states, and the District of Columbia—despite the fact that the General Education Provisions Act, the Department of Education Organization Act, and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act all protect states against such an intrusion by the United States Department of Education.

The Common Core Standards were developed by an organization called Achieve, and the National Governors Association—both of which were funded by the Gates Foundation.  The standards have been imposed on the states without any field testing, and little or no input from those involved in implementing the standards.  In a post entitled “Why I Cannot Support the Common Core Standards,” educational policy analyst and New York University Research Professor, Diane Ravitch, wrote that the standards “are being imposed on the children of this nation despite the fact that no one has any idea how they will affect students, teachers or schools…Their creation was neither grassroots nor did it emanate from the states.”

Ravitch is especially concerned about the content of the curriculum—what she called the “flap over fiction vs. informational text.”  Rather than giving English teachers the freedom to teach literature, the Common Core mandates that a far greater percentage of classroom time be spent on “fact-based” learning.  Ravitch’s concerns are shared by others.  For example, one teacher claimed that she had to give up having her students read Shakespeare in favor of Malcolm Gladwell’s Tipping Point because it was “fact-based” and Shakespeare was not. Of course, Tipping Point has a political agenda.  Parents may be concerned if they were to learn that Gladwell suggests such “facts” as the belief that parents should stop worrying about their children’s “experimentation with drugs,” including cocaine because “it seldom leads to hardcore use.”

Update on Pro-Life Efforts in Pennsylvania State Government

March 4, 2013 Meeting With Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley and Policy Secretary Jen Branstetter

At their invitation, leaders from the pro-life organizations in Pa. met with these state government officials, as well as Lt. Gov. (LG) Cawley's Chief of Staff(COS), Guy Ciarrocchi, Esq. and Gov. Corbett's Deputy COS, Luke Bernstein.  Our assiduous efforts to prepare a clear, united and cogent agenda, I believe, proved highly worthwhile.  I am attaching a sheet that summarizes this agenda by presenting the requests that we made in each area.

The positive part of the meeting was LG Cawley's strong engagement and promise of a response to our requests at the meeting. The disappointing part of the meeting was the absence of Michael Wolf, the Acting Secretary of the Department of Health (DOH), or any other official from DOH.

Gov. Corbett's DOH, while a significant improvement from Govs. Ridge and Rendell's DOH, only has a mixed record.  If this meeting does not result in improvement from DOH, I expect that leaders in the Pa. pro-life movement and I will be issuing a strong call for contact with Gov. Corbett regarding his DOH's deficiencies in enforcing state laws and regulations against the Pa. abortion industry, as well as DOH's now lengthy lack of response to requests from pro-life citizens and organizations.

Passing Obamacare Abortion Opt-Out Legislation in the Pa. General Assembly

I believe that significant progress was made on this issue on March 20, 2013,when other leaders in the Pa. pro-life movement (Maria Gallagher, Tom Shaheen, Randy Wenger, Esq. and Jack O'Brien) and I met with the Senate President and the House Speaker.  I believe that we broke the ongoing stalemate over "Should the House or the Senate Bill pass?" by receiving an affirmative response from both Sen. Scarnati and Speaker Smith to our request to promptly pass S.B. 3.  So, our next step is to urge Sen. Don White, the Chairman of the Pa. Senate Banking and Insurance Committee, to pass S.B. 3in this Committee as soon as possible when the Pa. Senate returns on April 8, 2013.

Promoting Action on Other Pro-Life Legislative Proposals

We cannot and should not consider the passage of S.B. 3 to constitute a successful2013-2014 legislative term.  This legislation only prevents some of the deadly harms of Obamacare in our state.  We should be aggressively pursuing a positive agenda that will significantly reduce the number of abortions, abortion facilities and/or abortionists in our state.

The January 2011 Philadelphia Grand Jury's Report provided an urgent and important legislative agenda item for the 2011-2012 term. However, no clear consensus has yet emerged as to our next legislative priority after abortion opt-out legislation.

Some other leaders in the Pa. pro-life movement and I are having some success in achieving a consensus that our next priority should be "The Priorities Bill."  This bill would effectively de-fund Planned Parenthood (PP) and other abortion committers by assigning such committers the lowest priority for the receipt of state funds.

We and some pro-life legislators are taking some actions to prepare and introduce this legislation.  Nevertheless, the most likely way to effect the passage of this legislation is for Gov. Corbett to include this language in his 2014 budget.

A woman and her 3 children were walking down the sidewalk and stopped to talk to me about baby hats and booties that I was carrying in a plastic bag. She wanted to know whom they were for. I told her I gave them to the young women who were contemplating abortion or to young woman who were choosing life. She told me, "my youngest child, Yetta, was supposed to be aborted. I was here at Planned Parenthood 2-3 years ago, and I chose life for my baby."

Scientists Discuss Relationship Between Abortion and Violence Against Women

New York, March 8th 2013 – Scientists of the United States of America, Ireland, and Chile met this week in New York to discuss recent scientific evidence regarding abortion as a form of growing violence against women and girls. Indiscriminate practice of abortion is significantly correlated with coercion, a history of sexual abuse, violence during pregnancy, intimate partner violence, and with psychological consequences that may lead to suicide.

The scientific evidence was discussed by Doctors Monique Chireau (North Carolina, USA), Donna Harrison (Illinois, USA), Eoghan de Faoite (Dublin, Ireland), and Elard Koch (Concepción, Chile). The meeting “Public Policies to reduce maternal mortality, a holistic focus on maternal health” took place in parallel to the 57th Session of the Commission of Women Status of the United Nations, whose priority theme is the “elimination and prevention of all types of violence against women and girls”, activity that will go on until March 15th.

CSS so Good at Supporting Pregnant Women, State Agency Gives it Top Award

Catholic Social Services (CSS) of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia has been named Pennsylvania’s Service Provider of the Year by the Harrisburg-based Real Alternatives, a state-funded nonprofit that administers the Alternative to Abortion Services Program of the Commonwealth.

The award is presented annually to the provider agency that has served the most pregnant women across the state.

The award was officially presented in Harrisburg on March 21 by Lourdes Padilla, deputy secretary for the Department of Public Welfare’s Office of Income Maintenance to Amy Stoner of CSS.

 Padilla, who was filling in for Lt. Gov. Jim Cawley, who was called away for legislative duties, had a moving experience of her own that made the ceremony especially important to her.

She herself was pregnant and because of problems was advised to have an abortion. She refused, telling the doctor she was pro-life. Her son is now 35 years old.

“We are extremely grateful and humbled,” Stoner said in accepting the award, “to know that CSS’s impact is so far-reaching and honored by Real Alternatives as the Service Provider of the Year.

Post-Abortion Baby Parts Now a Booming Business

The culture of death demeans human life and perverts our view of reality. It actually forces us to view one another inhumanely or as just another commodity by reducing us to a mass of cells, blob of tissue, or a mixture of atoms that are here today and gone tomorrow, with no eternal consequence and no moral obligations. And viewing our existence on earth through that paradigm, it's not hard to see how some not only choose to kill their babies in the womb, but even sell parts of those aborted babies to the highest bidder in the name of science.

Case in point: StemCells, Inc. just put out a news release for investors in which they announced their latest money-making opportunity – using the brains from aborted babies for research.

Of course they don't call the brains "brains," nor do they mention that the organs were part of a baby once residing safely in a mother's womb. Rather, they label the material proprietary HuCNS-SC®, or "purified human neural stem cells." (Both of which sound far more appealing than "the brain we just removed from the child the doctor killed and threw away.")

And since StemCells, Inc. has already received the approval of President Obama's Food and Drug Administration for this research, it's off to the races.
