PERFECT/IMPERFECT?

By Nancy Oliver

Love is the most powerful essence on earth.
It is what we all seek. It is what changes our attitudes towards those who are different than we. The meaning of essence is “perfect or idealized form of something, especially when embodied in a person.”  Perfection is an aloof thing, for what is perfect to me may not be perfect to you, but does that make it imperfect? Only to those who perceive it as such…to others it is so perfect that there can be no room for improvement. What make that perfection are our own minds and attitudes. We can change our thinking and see the perfection in what we once perceived as imperfect. Love is the attribute that can change everything.

We have evolved to learn to love those who are different than we. Once in our own nation, the idealization of color of skin should be milky white. Women to be perceived as perfect stayed out of the sun and behind drawn curtains. The dark color of skin in the slaves of the predominate blacks was thought to be inferior. We fought a civil war over it, we moved into the Civil Rights Movement and we made laws that forced us to change our attitude towards the color of the skin.
When we changed our attitude as an overwhelming majority we found that we gained great men and women of color. Men and women who brought us more love than we ever could have imagined once upon a time.
Not all of own ancestors in the United States of America were biased on color. Some saw nothing but the person who possessed the different color of skin. Some saw the beauty in ebony, for beauty is through and through the individual no matter how imperfect they may look to us in our perception.

Love is not always kind in the way we believe it should be; it is not always what we perceive as perfect. If never given a chance the great element of love and the lives lessons love can teach us become a great void in the completion of individuals who never seek it…who never seem to find it. The cross over song “The Rose” now comes to my mind.
Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed…”

Abortion of the unwanted…the imperfect is only what we perceive as just that. For some the mind changes and sees the great LOVE in imperfection. Should we all just get past the “imperfect” attitude we may find the LOVE of which is so powerful that to never have had given it a chance to bloom and to show its full array of beauty, we as individuals; we as the collective body of mankind…would never find the perfection in the imperfection. To find that void is just that…an empty pit of nothingness.
