Never Forget the Baby Body Parts Scandal!

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director

It has long since disappeared from the news--to the extent that it ever was in the consciousness of the mainstream news media.

But in his new book, Calm in Chaos, well-respected writer Father George Rutler revisits the Planned Parenthood baby body parts scandal. As you may recall, a series of explosive undercover videos showed high-ranking Planned Parenthood officials blithely discussing the sale of baby body parts. The cavalier nature of the grisly exchanges even prompted an apology by then Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards.

As Fr. Rutler incisively states, "Now that Planned Parenthood has been exposed for those who have willfully been blind during these years of its atrocities, all that its CEO could sheepishly manage to say of a senior director of medical services sipping wine as she cited prices for infants' body parts was that her 'tone' was 'inappropriate' and 'unacceptable.'" Fr. Rutler also notes that the abortion giant continues to draw more than a half-a-billion dollars from the public coffer through its taxpayer subsidization.

Fr. Rutler points out that, after her apology, "Richards angrily backtracked and insisted that such horrific procedures promote scientific research. Benjamin Franklin said, 'Never ruin an apology with an excuse.'"

Fr. Rutler then reminds his readers of the bizarre statement of another Planned Parenthood official, Mary Gatter, who said of baby body parts profits, "It's been years since I've talked about compensation, so let me find out what others are getting, and if it's in the ballpark, then that's fine. And if it's still low, then we can bump it up--I want a Lamborghini."

The author then writes of the irony of working in close proximity to both Planned Parenthood and a school, "For several years, the Manhattan headquarters of Planned Parenthood have been directly across the street from my church and its school building, where children learn to read and write while smaller children are being dismembered in the opposite building."

Certainly, Planned Parenthood's grisly business cries out to heaven for justice. Nevertheless, the cold and calculating manner in which Planned Parenthood's doctors discussed the alleged trafficking of baby body parts is particularly shocking. While a few years have passed since Planned Parenthood's inner workings were exposed for all the world to see, the scandal still remains relevant. For it points to the inhumanity of the entire Planned Parenthood enterprise. Let us never forget the horrific allegations of baby body parts trafficking--for the very idea sears the soul of the country we hold dear.
