UN “Experts” Visit US; Denounce Laws Against Abortion

Editor’s note. The following is excerpted from a post that appeared on the webpage of the Parliamentary Network for Critical Issues (PNCI).

The UN Working Group on the issue of discrimination against women in law and in practice conducted a visit to the United States last week and denounced laws restricting and regulating abortion as discriminatory and interfering with “women’s reproductive rights”.

The Group railed against state laws on abortion, designed to protect women’s safety and provide for an informed and non-coerced decision, calling the laws “severe barriers” to women’s rights asserting:

“These take the form of unjustified medical procedures, such as compelling women to undergo ultrasounds or to endure groundless waiting periods, withholding of early pregnancy abortion medications, imposing burdensome conditions for the licensing of clinics, which have resulted in the closing of clinics across the country leaving women without geographical access to sexual and reproductive health services.” …

The Group promoted adoption of the Woman’s Health Protection Act which it declared “would prohibit states from enacting restrictions on reproductive health care providers that interfere with women’s personal decision making and block access to safe and legal abortion services; and to require all hospitals to provide these services and insurance schemes to provide coverage for abortions to which women have a right under US law.”

The Working Group–a Special Procedure under the auspices of the United Nations Human Rights Council to advance non-discrimination against women–on its first country visit to the US called for “increased funding of clinics under the Title X Family Planning Program in order to expand coverage for low-income women who lack insurance in order for them to access preventive care, including sexual and reproductive health services…”

Opposition to conscientious objection and religious freedom was expressed in the strongest terms as the Group– sounding like pro-abortion activists and repeating pro-abortion arguments– proclaimed:

Urgent Action Needed on A2270/S382, Physician Assisted Suicide Bill!

The NJ Senate may take up A2270/S382, the Physician Assisted Suicide bill on Thursday, January 7 or Monday, January 11, 2016. These are the last days of the Lame Duck Legislative Session. At this time, we are asking you do the following:

1. Call and email your State Senator and urge him/her to vote No on A2270/S382. Please do this even if you have contacted them previously. Please be sure to both email and call. You can send a pre-written email message directly by clicking on the "Take Action" prompt below.

                             

2. Please also plan to join us at the State House on Thursday, January 7 and Monday, January 11, 2016. In order to get a parking spot, it is advisable that you come down early.

The plan is to line the hallways of the State House as a group before the voting session and then stand outside the Senate Chambers before the 1 p.m. Voting session. Please find out who your Senator is before you come down. The goal is to speak to them and inform them you are a constitutent and that you urge them to vote No on A2270/S382. If You’re Over 70 and Done With Life, Euthanasia Campaigners Want You to Kill Yourself

The Dutch Right to Die Society (NVVE), is now lobbying to have the law changed to allow persons reaching the age of 70 years of age who believe that their life is complete and who are tired of living to be given a lethal pill with which to kill themselves. The Society claims that this is already happening and the law needs to be changed to prevent abuse.


Right to Life challenges the Voluntary Euthanasia Society New Zealand to admit that they support giving a suicide pill to all 70 year olds in New Zealand who are tired of living.

It is always morally wrong to take life. This proposal is an attack on the sanctity of life and the intrinsic dignity of every human being. It is a denial of our stewardship of the precious life that our Creator has entrusted to us.

The advocates for a culture of death claim that suicide is a human right. This campaign exposes the sham that euthanasia is all about compassion and preventing people dying with intolerable suffering. It isn’t really about that all. What it is about is a misguided at best group of persons who seek an ever expanding set of criteria under which suicide is promoted as the answer to adversity and life’s problems. Ultimately though, it will be all about removing lives considered not worthy of living.

Holland is in the powerful grip of a culture of death. It is expected that this campaign which commenced in the nineties will ultimately succeed, as the Royal Dutch Medical Society strongly supports doctor assisted suicide and is currently in consultation with the Dutch Right to Die Society on the implementation of this lethal proposal.

Pro-Life Movement Gains Ground 43 Years after Roe v. Wade

As Roe v. Wade turns 43, signs abound that the pro-life movement has made tremendous gains since seven out of the nine men on the U.S. Supreme Court decided to make abortion legal nationwide.

The Centers for Disease Control recently reported that abortion is now at an all-time low in the U.S. Specifically, the CDC report states that abortions declined by more than one-third from 1990 to 2010.

Any abortion stops a beating heart and a single abortion is a tragedy. Still, the decrease in abortions nationwide is an encouraging sign that our nation has turned a corner in reevaluating the rights of the unborn child and recognizing the unspeakable devastation that women can suffer as a result of abortion.

As of July, the Guttmacher Institute, the former research arm of Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion operation, reported that states enacted more than 50 pro-life laws in 2015. According to Guttmacher, nearly 300 abortion-related laws have been passed nationwide since 2010. These protective laws include increasing waiting periods for abortion, banning dismemberment abortions, in which a baby is torn limb by limb from a mother's womb, and toughening health and safety standards for abortion facilities.

The move to crack down on unsafe abortion operations followed the grisly revelations in Pennsylvania's own Kermit Gosnell case, in which abortionist Gosnell was suspected of killing hundreds of full-term babies in his filthy facility. The explosive grand jury report cited numerous failures at the city and state level to shut down Gosnell's House of Horrors.

The grand jury report stated, "The medical practice by which he carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels-and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths. Over the years many people came to know that something was going on here. But no one put a stop to it."

Prosecutors could not bring charges in many cases because they said Gosnell had destroyed records-but in the end he was convicted of killing three babies and causing the death of a female immigrant patient, Karnamaya Mongar. Meanwhile, the Pennsylvania legislature enacted abortion center regulations which required regular inspections of abortion facilities-something that had not occurred for at least 15 years. At least five Pennsylvania abortion facilities shut their doors because they either could not or would not meet basic levels of care.

Both pro-life advocates and those who support legal abortion report pro-life pregnancy help centers outnumber abortion facilities by a two-to-one margin. Women can receive comprehensive support for their pregnancies, reducing the possibility that they will turn to abortion in the midst of the challenges they face.

The chorus of voices of women who regret their abortions has grown stronger. Through the Silent No More Awareness campaign, post-abortive women are courageously talking about the trauma and emotional pain they have endured as a result of their abortions. They are dedicated to sharing their very personal testimonies in an effort to spare other women the suffering they have undergone.

I look forward to the day when every unborn baby and every expectant mother will be nurtured and loved, as Roe v. Wade is erased from the law books and compassion and common sense are restored to our legal system.

Ted Cruz’s Dad: Quit Being Politically Correct on Abortion, You’re Either “Pro-Life or Pro-Murder”

The Rev. Rafael Cruz, father of Republican presidential contender Ted Cruz, is not shy about stating where he stands on abortion.

Rev. Cruz issued a strong call to a group evangelical Christians recently, saying that Americans should stop using euphemistic terms like “pro-choice” and say “pro-murder” instead, CNS News reports.

“We have to stop being politically correct,” Rev. Cruz said. “We have to stop acquiescing even to the wording that the liberals use.”

“Just think about it,” he continued. “They talk about the issue of life. They say ‘pro-life’ or ‘pro-choice.’ That’s not the right word. It is ‘pro-life’ or ‘pro-death.’ It is ‘pro-life’ or ‘pro-murder.’

“So we’re supposed to prostitute our principles on behalf of tolerance. Well, I’ll tell you what, there are absolutes. There are absolutes. Start being biblically correct instead of politically correct.”

Some pro-lifers prefer the term “pro-abortion” to “pro-murder” because, they argue, U.S. law does not legally consider abortion to be murder. Still, Rev. Cruz’s point is clear that the term “pro-choice” is misleading, at best. People who believe abortion should be legal support the killing of unborn babies in the womb.

Rev. Cruz’s son also has been a vocal supporter of life for unborn babies. The U.S. Senator from Texas and presidential candidate recently called out Hillary Clinton for trying to hide her radical position on abortion

How the Word ‘Fetus” Helped Usher in Abortion on Demand

As one of the first posts of 2016, I’d like to briefly talk about an article that had been kindly forwarded to me. It ran online at salvomag.com and was titled simply, “Fetus.”

I learned a lot.

For example, “The first recorded use of the word ‘fetus’ dates back to 1398. Before then, an unborn human was almost always referred to as a ‘child’ (or some variation thereof).” In fact, “even up until the sixteenth century, ‘fetus’ wasn’t in common use; indeed, there’s evidence that as late as 1594 people were still using ‘child’ to refer both to the born and to the unborn.”

While it’s hard to tell, according to the article, “when ‘fetus’ finally became the preferred term for the unborn, we do know that beginning in the 1970s the word took on a whole new meaning, sharply distinguishing the unborn from the born child so as to suggest that the former was not fully human.”

We’re reminded that “abortion advocates often talk about the pro-life movement’s ‘love affair with the fetus at the expense of the born child,’ as if the two were distinct entities. Such semantic mis-direction was one of the consequences of the [1973] Roe decision, which solidified this supposed distinction between the born and unborn.”

New Pro-Life Umbrella Group Forms in Scotland to Fend Off Liberalization of Abortion Law

Back in November, NRL News Today wrote about the aftermath of the British House of Commons’ 350 to 183 vote to grant the Scottish Parliament control over abortion laws (it’s called “devolving abortion policy”).

Although the Scottish government has consistently said it planned no change in the abortion law, both sides–but especially pro-lifers–believe a change is in the offing.

That’s why the formation of a new umbrella pro-life group “Don’t Stop A Beating Heart” is so significant.

The group’s coordinator is the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children Scotland and, according to STV News (Scotland), it “is supported by the Catholic Church in Scotland, the Muslim Council of Scotland and the Free Church of Scotland, among others.” The group “says it has brought Scotland’s pro-life groups under the same banner for the first time and is ‘a significant show of strength.’”

“The rights of the unborn child are facing new threats with the impending devolution of powers to the Scottish Parliament from Westminster,” said John Deighan, chief executive of SPUC Scotland and campaign co-ordinator. “Already, well in advance of the transfer of legislative authority, we are hearing a clamour for further extension of the existing, excessively liberal law,” which, he said, “could see abortion legalised from the existing 24-week limit, in most cases, up until the point of birth.”

Huckabee: GOP exodus over Planned Parenthood

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee insists that the GOP’s support of the recent $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill — which includes Planned Parenthood funding — is to blame for the mass exodus that is being witnessed from the Republican Party.

The former Arkansas governor insists that large numbers are leaving the GOP because they have lost their faith in their party, which controls both chambers of Congress that passed the controversial bill putting more taxpayer dollars in the hands of the world’s largest abortion provider.

"[The passage of the bill] put a lot of people over the top, [because after] working hard to get Republican majorities in the House and the Senate, [grassroots conservatives fail to see] significant policy changes," Huckabee recently stated on MSNBC’s Morning Joe.

According to Huckabee, conservatives across America put their trust in the Republican officials who they voted into office to represent their party’s supposed platform ideals — including its fight against the federal funding of abortion. He says many were let down for the last time and have finally had enough of the GOP.

"That’s why people in the Republican Party are just bolting for the door," the former Fox talk show host expressed to former Republican Congressman Joe Scarborough, according to LifeSiteNews.

Washington, DC - Operation Rescue is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2015 Pro-life Person of the Year Malachi Award is Jeanneane Maxon, former Vice President of External Affairs and Corporate Counsel at Americans United for Life.

Maxon's instrumental and sacrificial team-building work with AUL contributed to a flood of new pro-life legislation that has led to a dramatic number abortion clinic closures and a reduction in abortions in America to historic new lows.

The Malachi Award is given by Operation Rescue every year to recognize individuals who sacrificially work to advance the cause of protecting the pre-born.

"Jeanneane's quiet but brilliant work with AUL has had a major impact on the Abortion Cartel," said Troy Newman, President of Operation Rescue. Maxon resigned from her position at AUL in December and planned to move from Washington, D.C. to Texas to be closer to family and start her own consulting firm. Just before Christmas, Maxon underwent successful surgery to remove a brain tumor the size of a lime.

"Life doesn't always go as planned, and it is how we deal with challenges that show our true character. Jeanneane's strong Christian faith, trust in the power of prayer, and fighting spirit are shining examples to all of us," said Newman.

Because Maxon has sacrificed so much for the cause of life, Operation Rescue wants to encourage pro-life supporters to stand with her in this time of need by making a generous donation to Jeanneane's Give Forward Fund to help with medical expenses and the unexpected expenditures incurred by her family as they care for her during what is expected to be a long recovery process.
