Report: New York Doesn't Inspected Abortion Centers

Most abortion centers in New York haven't been inspected in 12 years, according to a new investigation.

Sound familiar? It should.

Just a few years ago, Pennsylvanians discovered the devastating consequences of not inspecting abortion centers in our state - women and full-term babies were being injured and killed at the hands of an abortionist.

For 17 years, Kermit Gosnell ran his Philadelphia abortion practice without a single state inspection. He got away with killing newborns and injuring women in his "house of horrors" facility for almost two decades.

Officials finally caught Gosnell by accident when they stumbled on his abortion practices during a federal drug investigation.

Fortunately that accidental discovery woke up Pennsylvania. Our state realized something needed to be done. Abortion centers weren't being inspected, and abortionists were literally getting away with murder.

In 2011, Pennsylvania legislators passed a new law requiring regular inspections of abortion centers in an effort to protect women and babies from other Gosnells.

It's time that the rest of our country wake up to the fact that we're putting mothers' and babies' lives in jeopardy by not regulating abortion centers. Nail salons and restaurants are being inspected on a regular basis, but abortion centers -- where surgery is being performed and lives are being ended -- are allowed to peddle their back alley trade on main street.

Women and babies deserve better.
