Here it is: Which Insurance Plans Don't Force you to Pay for Abortion

Chuck Donovan, President
Charlotte Lozier Institute

I promised I would share with you findings from our latest research on which federally subsidized health insurance plans do NOT cover elective abortion. After viewing documents for more than 1,000 Individual and Family health plans across the U.S., our Charlotte Lozier Institute and Family Research Council teams have completed our 4th year of work on this project, and we have updated our resource website with the latest information. Visit www.ObamacareAbortion.com to check out new information for your state.

Here are some of our key findings for the 2018 enrollment year:

  • In 6 states and the District of Columbia, 100% of the Individual and Family plans on the exchange cover abortion on demand.

  • In an additional 7 states, between 50% to 99% of plans cover elective abortion.
  • 26 states do NOT allow elective abortion coverage in plans offered on the state exchange, including Texas for the 1st time this year – See if your state is among these.
  • Of all Individual and Family exchange plans in the 24 states (plus the District of Columbia) that allow abortion coverage in exchange plans, an estimated 53% (527 plans) cover elective abortion.
  • Last year, there were more than 200 “Multi-State Plans” (nicknamed MSPs) nationwide – none of which covered elective abortion; this year, there are only 3 MSPs total (none covering elective abortion).
  • For the 103 plans whose Summary of Benefits and Coverage documents do not state whether they cover abortion or not, we will be checking back for more information, and will update those state pages as soon as we can confirm the plan statuses.

Please consider forwarding this to any of your family and friends who may be looking to sign up for a health plan that does NOT require members to pay for elective abortions. The Open Enrollment season started on November 1st and will end on December 15th, in most states, this year.

That’s right around the corner, so act now! And please spread the word.
