National Organization for Marriage
With the March for Marriage just over a week
from now, emails are pouring in from around the country, excited individuals
and groups are sharing their stories about making final plans to be with us in
Washington, DC on March 26th to stand for marriage, family, and the liberties
we hold dear.
The program for the March is also its final
planning stages, and today I am very happy to announce a few exciting additions
to the rally schedule:
Alongside the other great speakers we've already
got lined up, we are very happy to add the name of Professor Robert Lopez, who
gained national attention this past August with his heartfelt appeal in support
of marriage, particularly in an article that tells his story "Growing Up
with Two Moms: The Untold Children's View." I look forward along with you
to hearing Professor Lopez at the March, giving his compassionate but honest
assessment of the consequences of same-sex marriage for children in our
society.
To help motivate and embolden us for the March,
we will also be featuring some great live musical acts, and I'm very pleased to
announce two of them today:
The Lee Boys, one of America's finest
African-American sacred steel ensembles, consists of three brothers — Alvin,
Derrick, and Keith Lee — along with three of their nephews. Their music is a
unique style of Gospel with a hard-driving, blues-based beat, drawing
influences from rhythm and blues, jazz, rock, funk, hip-hop and other genres.
The Lee Boys have performed throughout Europe and North America. We are very
pleased to welcome them to our stage for the March for Marriage!
Ultramontane is one of the most rousing,
energetic, and eclectic acts you could ever have the chance to see. Their music
has its roots in the Celtic folk tradition, but infuses styles from all around
the world, especially Eastern European, as well as blending music genres from
punk-rock to bluegrass! With rousing "dueling fiddles" in ensemble
with varied instruments including fiddle, rhythm guitar, banjo, accordion, and
world percussions, Ultramontane is sure to give our marches the smiling faces
and the energy they'll need for the important work of the day.
Finally, I want to let
you know that the March now has an official color scheme — what could be more
appropriate than red, white, and blue for patriotic Americans who cherish so
much the rights our ancestors bravely fought to pass on to us for the good of
our families? We follow in some important footsteps with our March, knowing
that it is now our task to stand in defense of the rights we cherish and
to preserve them for future generations.
For the day of the March, we'll hope that our
marchers will display the following colors prominently: Blue for Gentlemen
marchers; Red for Lady marchers; and White for our boy and girl marchers.
We have more exciting things in store for
those of you who can attend the March on March 26th in Washington, D.C. Please
continue to check MarriageMarch.org
for updates and spread the word by word of mouth, email, Facebook and Twitter!
