David L. Gray’s Self-Debate: Wrong Side of History Argument

If you haven’t heard by now, Catholics are on the wrong side of history when it comes to issues such as homosexual marriage, contraception, abortion, and any other number of life destroying issues. We don’t know it yet, but, apparently, sometime in the near distant future, or in a galaxy far far away, we are completely wrong about absolutely everything! We just don’t know it yet . . .

For the past couple of years, this closing argument has been a favorite of liberals. Essentially, their position is that they know the future, and we don’t. Therefore, we should just shut up about what we believe, because they have found out that they win in the end.

Recently, two US Senators wrote a letter to the National Football League commissioner, Roger Goodell, stating that the NFL was on the ‘wrong side of history’ by allowing the Washington Redskins to keep their name that they say people see as a racial slur. There is even a song by Daryl Hall of the Daryl Hall and John Oats fame entitled, ‘Wrong Side of History’, but I think that song is about a woman who broke up with him or something. Nevertheless, I thought I would flush out some of the fallacies of this weak argument by arguing with myself aloud. Here we go . . .

Gray: Well, you’re on the wrong side of history with this issue, buddy!

David: What do you mean that I’m on the wrong side of history?
