Two “Red Rose Rescuers” who entered an abortion mill in Alexandria, Virginia to hand out red roses and information about abortion alternatives have been convicted of trespassing.
Lauren Handy (left) and Linda Mueller entered the clinic peacefully for the purpose of encouraging women to reconsider their abortion appointments and save their babies' lives. Along with the red roses, Handy and Mueller handed out cards that contained information about local pregnancy resource centers.
A nurse for the abortion facility testified that Handy and Mueller “were not acting in a threatening manner” and affirmed that they were “speaking in soft voices.” Handy and Mueller were only asked to leave after they began conversing with the women seeking abortion.
Judge Donald Haddock imposed a $1000 fine on 24-year-old Handy, which he suspended so long as Handy does not re-enter the Alexandria mill. Mueller, a mother of six, was fined $500, which was also suspended contingent on not returning to the facility.
Virginia attorney John Kiyonaga filed an appeal on Mueller’s behalf.Handy decided not to appeal the decision.
Life Legal was present for the trial and is assisting with the appeal.
In a related Life Legal case, another group of Red Rose Rescuers, including Fr. Stephen Imbarrato of Priests for Life, face a pre-trial hearing next Wednesday, May 30 in Washington DC.
Please pray for the Red Rose Rescuers, especially for those facing trial in Washington DC in the coming weeks.
