Eleven Years Ago Today, Terri Schiavo Died After 13 Days Without Food and Water

Terri Schiavo

By Dave Andrusko
Life News

Today marks the eleventh anniversary of the grotesque death by starvation and dehydration of Terri Schindler Schiavo. Her courageous brother wrote today “The inhumanity of what happened to her will never be forgotten.”

And, yet, I suspect, for many pro-lifers, especially those new to our Movement, Terri’s name is only a vague memory, if even that. Eleven years is a long time.

The irony is, as Bobby points out, that his sister’s ghastly death foreshadowed the head-first leap off a moral cliff we see in places like Belgium, the Netherlands, and (perhaps most foreboding) Canada. NRL News Today has written, or reposted, dozens and dozens of stories illustrating how the lives of the medically vulnerable have been recklessly and inhumanely cheapened.

If I may, I would like to use this somber occasion to recall for readers who may not know what happened in 2005 and in the process to update comments I’ve made about Terri, her brave parents, and her siblings. As you will see whenever I looked at Terri, I could never, ever get another death by starvation out of my heart and mind.

When your life revolves around trying to stem the anti-life tide that has swept away over

58 million unborn lives, you might think that the power of individuals cases—instances where the fate of one human life hangs in the balance—would be diminished.

You would be wrong. Let me set the context for how I came to see Terri’s plight.

I had been at National Right to Life only few months when the case of an Indiana baby—“Baby Doe”—became a topic of intense national debate. As the letter to the Movement that we reprint from President Reagan explained, when this little boy was born in 1982, he needed only routine surgery to unblock his esophagus which would allow him to eat. Except Baby Doe had Down syndrome.

“[A] doctor testified, and a judge concurred, that even with the physical problem corrected, Baby Doe would have a ‘non-existent’ possibility for a ‘minimally adequate life,’” President Reagan wrote back in 1984. “The judge let Baby Doe starve and die, and the Indiana Supreme Court sanctioned his decision.”

As I wrote at the time,

“Up until the time that tiny newborn baby died of starvation I took my pro-life commitment very seriously but impersonally. Baby Doe’s unnecessary death forever changed that for me, and I’m sure for many others as well.”

I did not learn of Baby Doe’s lethal plight until near the very end of his very brief life. But it was the exact opposite with Terri Schindler Schiavo’s ghastly ordeal.

When Terri died on March 31, 2005, having been denied nourishment for 13 agonizing day, the 41-year-old’s starvation death brought to an end—in one sense, at least—a tumultuous, eleven-year battle between the Schindler family and Terri’s estranged husband.

Settlement Protects Free Speech of NYC Pregnancy Care Centers

PCCNY

NEW YORK –A settlement that a federal district court approved Wednesday protects the right of pro-life pregnancy care centers in New York Cityto serve women without being forced to speak or post messages that are contrary to their pro-life beliefs or that direct women away from the services the centers offer.

The settlement protects the centers’ constitutionally protected freedoms that were in jeopardy because of Local Law 17, an anti-pregnancy care law that the courts mostly invalidated through the Alliance Defending Freedom {ADF} lawsuit Pregnancy Care Center of New York v. City of New York. An appeals court affirmed most of a district court’s ruling that had struck down the law but reinstated one vague provision in November 2014. The settlement resolves the remaining concerns of the centers.

“New York City’s pro-life pregnancy care centers should be able to offer free help and hope to the women and children that they serve without unconstitutional interference from the government, and this settlement allows that to happen,” said ADF Senior Counsel Matt Bowman. “The centers will be able to operate without being forced to post or express any messages that conflict with their pro-life beliefs or that encourage women to go elsewhere. The centers have also preserved their right to defend themselves in court again if the city discriminates against them.”

Call Your Lawmaker Now-- Stop Dismemberment Abortions in Pennsylvania

From Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

Action Alert: Call and email your representative in the PA House of Representatives with the following urgent message:
"Please support House Bill 1948, which bans dismemberment abortions in Pennsylvania. These abortions are brutal for babies and harmful for mothers, and they need to be outlawed."
If you don't know who your state Representative is, or you need contact information, click here. Enter your address and a window will pop up with the names and contact information for your state Representative.

Please note this is state legislation rather than federal legislation so you do not need to contact your Congressman or U.S. Senators Bob Casey and Pat Toomey.

Background:
Dismemberment abortions typically occur in the second trimester of pregnancy. They involve tearing a baby limb by limb from the mother's womb. They are also known as a D & E abortions. As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote, "No one would dispute that, for many, D&E is a procedure itself laden with the power to devalue human life."

Thank you once again for making these life-saving and life-changing calls and sending these critical emails!

Join Us At Abortionist Martin Haskell's Last Stand

Mark Harrington, National Director
Created Equal

Columbus, OH – Mar 30, 2016 – Notorious abortionist Martin Haskell has been on the run since failing to fulfill Ohio law requiring a transfer agreement with a local hospital. Now he is down to his final hearing to keep open the doors of his barbaric abortion practice in Kettering, OH. Haskell's last chance to appeal the denial of their request for a variance to the Ohio law will be held on Tuesday, April 26, at 10 AM at the Ohio Department of Health (246 N High St. in Columbus). The meeting is open to the public. We'll be there. Will you join us?

If Haskell's final appeal fails, the next step would be for the health department to revoke the center's ambulatory surgical facility license and issue a closure order.

Created Equal's Killers Among Us project has been instrumental in the effort to stop Martin Haskell and his abortion facility in Kettering, Ohio. Haskell had been skirting the transfer-agreement law through his relationship with Wright State Physicians (WSP) group. Last year, we focused our Killers Among Us campaign on this relationship between WSP and Haskell—driving mobile billboards throughout Dayton, OH and mailing postcards to neighbors of WSP members enabling Haskell.

Our efforts combined with local activists have had an impact, evidenced by Haskell's inability to get individual doctors or hospitals to support his practice, leaving him with neither a transfer agreement nor a substantive basis for a variance. Now, it appears he may be forced to close his doors.

Stay tuned. And join us next month at the Ohio Department of Health!

Created Equal is a social action movement seeking to end the greatest human rights injustice of our time. Killing preborn babies is nothing less than age-based discrimination. Abortion robs us of our future. Our goal is to restore the true meaning of equality to include equal protection between the born and the preborn.  For more informaiton or to make a donation to help Created Equal with their work, please use this link.

Cherish Your Sacred Right‏ - A Message from the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

By Maria Gallagher, Legislative Director
Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation

My Italian grandmother had to leave school in the 5th grade to care for her younger sisters. Despite her lack of formal education, she had a brilliant way of summing up the personalities of her seven children: Mary loved to dance. Rose was always praying. Danny always had his nose in a book...

Danny highly prized learning and graduated near the top of his class in high school. He determined that, coming from a poor family, his best opportunity for an education rested in the U.S. military. He enlisted during a rare time of peace. But, before he finished his service, war broke out, and his life was now at risk. I will always consider it a miracle that he survived, returned to the States, and was able to marry my mother and raise a family.

He never missed voting in an election. He knew it was a right he had laid his life on the line for. And he passed that love for free elections onto his two daughters.

During these times, it is easy to become discouraged with the political process and all the shenanigans that seem to be going on. But I urge you to tune out some of that campaign noise and exercise your precious right to vote in the April 26th Pennsylvania primary.

In addition to the Presidential race, races for U.S. Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, all of the state House, half the state Senate, as well as state-wide row offices such as Attorney General, Auditor General, and Treasurer are all up for a vote. Each of these races is important and will help decide the future of our state and our nation.

Despite any discouragement you may feel, please don't sit out this election. Many brave men and women fought and died to preserve our treasured American freedoms, including the freedom to vote.

A vote is a terrible thing to waste. If for no other reason, vote in honor of the valiant veterans who helped to preserve that right for you.

Woman’s Motherly Instinct Saves Newborn Baby Boy Abandoned in a Trash Compactor

Trash compactor

By Dave Andrusko
National Right to Life

It was the Friday before Easter–Good Friday–and Paula Andrews and another woman were merely throwing some trash away when they heard a sound.

According to KCPQ-Fox News, Andrews said the other woman actually heard the sound coming from the trash compactor first but thought it was the sound of a baby doll. But Andrews thought something was not just right.

“I just had this motherly instinct,” Andrews told reporters. “I just think…I just think that God was just telling me something. Don’t stop. Keep digging. Find out. Make sure.”

She quickly called 9-11 and then in “her Easter dress and high heels, [she] began digging through the trash,” Fox News’ Tom Yazwinski reported. “Andrews ripped out about 20 full bags of trash and lifted a large microwave to find the newborn boy underneath it, covered in blood with the umbilical cord still attached, but surprisingly alive.”

Medics checked the baby out and warmed him up before sending him to Providence Regional Medical Center. On Monday, officials said the baby was in very good shape.

Andrews told Yazwinski that after finding the baby, she was overcome with emotion. “I just kind of fell on my knees and started crying because I could not believe that someone would actually throw a human life away,” she said Monday. “It broke my heart.”

"Babies in the Womb Feel Pain" Billboard Campaign Launched in New Jersey

Marie Tasy, Executive Director
New Jersey Right to Life

New Jersey Right to Life has launched a billboard campaign with the simple message, "Babies in the Womb Feel Pain." The billboards contain a picture of a 20 week baby in the womb next to the Message that babies in the womb feel pain and includes the hashtag: #likeuandme, along with the NJRTL website.

The billboards are located on several, well-traveled,major highways throughout New Jersey for a limited time, and we are hopeful that it will call attention to the scientifically proven fact that babies in the womb feel pain. The billboards are very, large static (not digital) billboards and are illuminated in the evening.

In addition, we wanted to notify you that we have included information on our website on the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, here

We have also included an Action Alert which will enable you to send a pre-written message to your 3 Legislators asking them to support the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and an Action Alert to send to your 3 legislators to oppose the Resolution to Commemorate Roe v. Wade. Both can be accessed on our Legislation Page here

If you wish to donate to keep our billboards up on NJ Highways, please call our office at 732-562-0562. Please share this message with pro-life friends and family.

The Consequences of Disrespecting Life‏

Martin Fox, President
National Pro-Life Alliance

A fact not reported by the mainstream media is that President Obama, as an Illinois State Senator, refused to support legislation to give health care to newly born babies who survived botched abortions.

Words fail.

That said, after getting over the shock of such a position, it is not difficult to see his position as the natural outworking of the lack of respect for human life.

President Ronald Reagan said it best:
“Every legislator, every doctor, and every citizen needs to recognize that the real issue is whether to affirm and protect the sanctity of all human life, or to embrace a social ethic where some human lives are valued and others are not.”
By refusing to value the sanctity of all human life, the abortionists clearly embrace a culture of death.

This culture of death brings with it a class of individuals who believe that they are qualified to determine the value of other human lives.

A prime proponent of such dangerous views is so-called “ethicist” Peter Singer, a man The New Yorker called “the most influential living philosopher” and Time magazine named one of the 100 most influential men in the world.

Singer publicly endorses medical experimentation on the mentally disabled, denying care to the elderly, and even denying rights to infants under the age of two.

He believes mothers should have a trial period where they decide whether to keep their baby.

In fact, Mr. Singer actually advocates the slaughter of the unborn and the born up to age two, purely based on whether or not that child may be “inconvenient” or “undesirable.”

Of course abortionists, trying to distance themselves from people like Singer, want to pretend that the life they take when performing an abortion isn’t a human being until he or she is born.

But here’s what they can’t explain:
If, as they claim, an unborn baby isn’t a human being 2 minutes before he or she is born, why should he or she be a human 2 minutes after – or even 2 months after?
The fact of the matter is that there really is no difference.
These babies’ lives are precious from conception onwards. You and I have an obligation to fight for the culture of life.

And as we keep up the fight, I am confident you and I will ultimately succeed.

A Baby’s Life, No Less Sacred Before Birth than after Birth

Recently, a friend of mine, ever-sunny Robin, was all set to serve as a volunteer on a women’s retreat weekend. Then she learned that her beloved grandchild in utero, Quinn, had to be delivered by C-section the next morning.

She left the retreat, bound for her daughter-in-law’s side. And she left behind a group of faithful women who were praying fervently that Quinn would journey safely into the world.

The retreat was jam-packed with talks and activities, but when we had a few moments to pause, we, the team members, prayed again for the young lady’s blessed arrival.

A few hours later, a team member glanced at her phone and quietly informed those around her “We have a baby.”

We logged onto Facebook and there, in all her five-pound glory, was the girl we had been praying for—stunningly beautiful, preciously pink, uniquely lovely, and unashamedly and completely loved by the grandmother who held Quinn in her arms.

While I was filled with joy and wonder at seeing Quinn’s breathtaking face, I couldn’t help but think of some politicians—most notably Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sanders—and what they’d said at a Fox News Town Hall in Detroit: they support abortion even at the latest stages of pregnancy.

While Quinn’s remarkable family members were greeting her with open, loving hearts, two candidates for President were callously defending the brutal practice of late-term abortion.

Shapiro Gets Into Tense Back-and-Forth With Pro-Choice Student, Demands She Explain When Life Begins

Shapiro Gets Into Tense Back-and-Forth With Pro-Choice Student, Demands She Explain When Life Begins

By Oliver Darcy
The Blaze

Conservative personality Ben Shapiro quarreled with a pro-choice student Monday during a question and answer session following his speech at Salisbury University in Maryland.

“You don’t get to kill things just because it’s in your uterus,” Shapiro told the student during a back-and-forth.

“It’s my body. How about you stay out of it?” the student replied.

“I don’t care about your appendix,” Shapiro quipped, referencing the student’s earlier argument. “I don’t even care about your uterus. I care about what’s in it.”

“And I can take out my appendix if I don’t want it. So why can’t I take out other parts of my body?” the student asked.

“Because they are not independent living human beings,” Shapiro fired back.

The student continued to engage in a debate, arguing the fetus is merely a “bundle of cells.”

“At what point does that bundle of cells become a human being in your judgement?” Shapiro asked her.

“Um—,” the student said.

“No really,” Shapiro interjected.

Had a blast with @YAF at @SalisburyU! Particularly grateful to the lefties who came out to debate. Always fun :)

— Ben Shapiro (@benshapiro) March 29, 2016

“No, I just need to calm down for a second,” the student said.

After some silence, Shapiro argued “that is the relevant question.”

“If your argument is it’s a bundle of cells then the question becomes when it’s not a bundle of cells,” the conservative personality noted.

March - April Updates from Pro-Life Waco

Video Night March 31: Selected videos exposing PP harvesting baby organs

Our big public event is just days away. This is a public showing of Center for Medical Progress sting videos at West Waco Public Library (5301 Bosque Blvd). Thursday, March 31, 7 to 8:15 p.m. Pro-Life Waco will try to do the job that the mainstream media refuses. The event will be open to the public—even abortion supporters are welcome.

Videos selected will just show dialogue—NOT aborted babies and baby organs. The videos will expose the heartless attitudes and actions of top Planned Parenthood abortionists—Dr. Deborah Nucatola of New York, Dr. Mary Gatter of California, and Dr. Melissa Ferrell of Houston, Texas. To my knowledge, this is the first time a local pro-life group has had a public showing of the undercover videos that exposed Planned Parenthood involvement in the market for baby organs.

Protest Cecile Richards luncheon appearance for PP in Dallas April 4

Will you/your family/your group be there to "greet" Cecile Richards at this Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas celebration of the Culture of Death? Hyatt Regency Hotel in Downtown Dallas. Richards is the CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, which is responsible for committing 323,999 abortions in 2014.

A gang from Pro-Life Waco will be there in Dallas, arriving on April 4 a little after 11 a.m. The Waco group will depart onMonday April 4 from the St. Mary’s Church parking lot (1424 Columbus Ave.) at 9 a.m. If you want to join the van pool respond and let me know. Please spread the word. Please forward this message. Cecile Richards is not only a top abortion executive. While married and prosperous, Cecile and her husband calmly delivered a death penalty for their 4th child.

Protest Bank of America will attack  bank headquarters in Charlotte April 12th, 13th, 14th

Pro-life Waco launched protest Bank of America in Waco on September 1, 2015. This unprecedented initiative was motivated by two events in July of 2015. The first was the release of the undercover videos showing harvesting of fetal organs. Then Daily Signal released the names of 38 corporations that fund Planned Parenthood. The list includes the second largest bank in the USA, Bank of America with headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. Bank of America matches dollar-for-dollar every contribution it’s employees make to Planned Parenthood. This includes the contributions from the employees of BOA subsidiaries, such as Merrill Lynch investments. We are thankful to pro-life allies in Austin, Albuquerque, and Lubbock for ongoing protests at BOA Branches in those cities. The fruit of this outreach has been varied and large. BOA bank accounts have been closed. Clients have complained to BOA branch managers. Outside the BOA interactions, we have has so many positive sidewalk discussions with pro-lifers and those who have not yet embraced the Gospel of Life.

Thanks to a generous donor, I will soon fly out to Charlotte to protest at the front door of national headquarters at their 66-story tower. Right in middle of this photo.

I will protest with signs and flyers each day of April 12, 13, 14 at Bank of America for at least seven hours each day. See the flyer here:

I am hopeful this outreach will help bring about a divorce between BOA and PP. I know I will have many positive discussion on the sanctity of preborn life and family life.

I am praying that this will not be a one-person outreach at 100 North Tryon Street in downtown Charlotte. Do you live in or near Charlotte? Do you have pro-life friends who live near Charlotte? Is this the time for you take to take a vacation to Charlotte? Pease let me know if you can help in any way with ProtestBOA in Charlotte. You can find out much more about the ProtestBOA campaign by going here.

Florida Defunds Planned Parenthood, Eliminates $200,000 from the Abortion Industry

pp-florida

By Carl Freiburger
Live Action News

Florida is the latest state to defund abortion giant Planned Parenthood, shifting funding away from the abortion industry to comprehensive health clinics. On Friday, Republican Governor Rick Scott signed HB 1441, which will both reduce funding and tighten regulations on abortion facilities in the state.

The bill forbids state and local government from funding or contracting with any entity that owns, operates, or contracts with abortion facilities. It also requires abortionists to have admitting privileges and written transfer agreements with nearby hospitals.

In addition, the measure requires facilities to report the number of abortions and the reasons women cited for them on a monthly basis. A lack of comprehensive abortion reporting is a significant complication to accurately gauge reasons why women have abortions, as well as determining the number of medical emergencies and complications associated with abortions.

As Live Action News reported earlier in March, HB 1441 stands to cut off the Florida abortion industry from an estimated $200,000 of Medicaid funds annually.

State Senator Rob Bradley called it “simply intolerable” that “those taxpayer dollars would go to an organization that performs abortions.”

Florida Family Policy Council President John Stemberger called passage of the bill a “historic victory.” It is slated to take effect on July 1st.

Mom Writes Letter to Unborn Baby after They Survive Brussels’ Terrorist Attack

Sneha Mehta wrote a letter to her unborn child after surviving the terrorist attack at the Brussels Airport.

By Dave Andrusko
National Right to Life

Each day the death toll from last week’s terrorist attacks in Brussels grows. As of this morning, the number killed in the attacks at the airport and the metro station had risen to 35. At least another 270 people were injured.
Amidst this tragedy there was a life-affirming ray of hope.

On Friday CNN reported about Sneha Mehta and her husband, Samsee, who , according to Don Melvin, “had just flown in from Abu Dhabi to Brussels on Tuesday when bombs went off in the airport and the ceiling started falling on their heads.”Each day the death toll from last week’s terrorist attacks in Brussels grows. As of this morning, the number killed in the attacks at the airport and the metro station had risen to 35. At least another 270 people were injured.

Thanks to their knowledge of the airport’s layout and the kindness of strangers–a terrifically helpful cab driver who not only drove them to the hospital but calmly talked to them the whole way– the 16-week pregnant Sneha made it to Sint Augustinus hospital, where “there was a beautiful moment”:

The ultrasound exam showed that the baby — the Mehtas don’t know yet whether it is a boy or a girl — appeared to be healthy and content, safe in the womb, sucking its thumb.

When they got back home to Antwerp, “Sneha felt she had to write a letter to her baby,” Melvin wrote.

Maybe it will be unsealed when the child is 16. Maybe later. She hasn’t decided yet.

But she needed an outlet. And she needed, she said, to write the letter while the feelings were fresh and raw — to capture them before they faded.

CNN reproduced the beautiful letter, which we are posting below. It is must reading. The letter begins, “Hi, Sweetheart”

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Faces Lawsuit for Prohibiting Free Speech for Pro-Life People

prolifestudents38

Liberty Counsel
Harrisburg, PA

Liberty Counsel filed a federal lawsuit against the city of Harrisburg because its ordinance created unconstitutional buffer zones on public sidewalks and public property 20 feet away from abortion clinic entrances, exits, and driveways. In practice, this ordinance pushes sidewalk counselors sometimes 50, to more than 70, feet away and completely silences their freedom of speech. The U.S. Supreme Court recently overturned similar buffer zones in McCullen v. Coakley, the unanimous decision which establishes a strong precedent in favor of this lawsuit.

Liberty Counsel represents Suzanne Doller, Rosalie Gross, and Colleen Reilly, who have regularly engaged in peaceful sidewalk counseling on the public sidewalks outside the Planned Parenthood clinic and the Hillcrest abortion facility. Since the passage of the ordinance, they have been harassed and intimated by clinic staff and the local police.

The Harrisburg City Council did not list any specific incidents that led to the passage of the ordinance. While pretending to be neutral, this ordinance discriminates based on the speaker’s viewpoint. It allows pro-abortion clinic employees and agents to speak within the buffer zones but bans all pro-life speech. In addition, the city did not first seek any solutions that would cause less than complete censorship of the free speech of pro-life sidewalk counselors.

Liberty Counsel’s suit states that “the Ordinance has completely abolished free speech in traditional public fora used for the expression of ideas, debate, and protest-specifically, public sidewalks and streets adjacent to health care facilities, including abortion clinics, throughout the City of Harrisburg.”

“This city’s blatant discrimination against the pro-life point of view is unconstitutional. The city cannot prohibit one viewpoint on the subject matter of abortion. Sidewalks and parks have always been viewed as a place where we respect the marketplace of ideas. It is a dangerous position for a city to prohibit one viewpoint,” said Mat Staver, Founder and Chairman of Liberty Counsel.

Pro-Abortion Writer Twists Scripture to Claim Jesus Would Want Little Sisters to Promote Abortion

littlesisters

By Steven Ertelt
Life News

It’s always galling when the liberal media rip Scripture out of context to rebuke conservative orthodox Christians for their beliefs and actions, but there’s arguably added insult when it happens during Holy Week and the group in question are mostly elderly nuns.

According to the Daily Beast’s Jay Michaelson, not only is the lawsuit by the Little Sisters of the Poor against the Obama administration over the contraceptive mandate based on “tortured logic,” it’s sinful. Writing in his March 23 piece, “Christian Right Says No Means Yes In Obamacare Fight At Supreme Court,” Michaelson explains (emphases mine):

This, incidentally, is the new normal for conservative activism: raise tens of millions of dollars from right-wing 1 percenters and then file so many lawsuits that one is bound to make it to the Supreme Court. In fact, Zubik is actually seven cases consolidated into one with hundreds of briefs from activist groups on all sides.

Meanwhile, the government—funded not by the 1 percent but by all of us—has to spend millions of our money to defend all these suits. The net result, other than a biblical waste of taxpayer money, is both to get to the Supreme Court and to intimidate the government into giving the Christian Right what it wants. What would Jesus do, indeed.

(Answer: “The very fact that you have lawsuits among you means you have already been defeated.” 1 Corinthians 6:7)

Nice try, but St. Paul in this portion of the first epistle to the Corinthians was condemning Christians taking each other to court over their disputes rather than resolving them by fair arbitration within the church itself. Paul was not categorically barring Christians from filing lawsuits nor for standing up for their rights against government abuse in the civil courts. Paul, after all, famously stood on his rights as a Roman citizen on a few occasions (Acts 16:37-40; 22:22-29; 25:11-12).

As to Michaelson’s charge of twisted logic, he also gets it wrong:

In the 2009 battle to pass the Affordable Care Act in Congress, religious organizations won the right to opt out of providing coverage for contraception to their employees. (In Hobby Lobby, some for-profit corporations won that right too). This week, a cluster of religious organizations (Zubik himself is the Catholic bishop of Pittsburgh) is trying to opt out of the opt out.

Hysterical Reactions to Missouri Parental Notification Bill Expose Abortion Advocates’ Extremism

via rtlsc.org

By Cavin Freiburger
Live Action News

One of the surest ways to tell if somebody’s an extremist is to see whether their words are proportionate to what they’re discussing. Pro-lifers, for instance, believe that killing a pre-implantation embryo via abortifacient drugs and killing a developed, pain-capable fetus by partially delivering her and stabbing her skull are equally wrong, but we can see clear differences in the moral intentions of those who support one versus the other.

Pro-aborts tend to recognize no such distinctions, and the latest manifestation of that tendency is a doozy. At the Daily Kos, Bimmerella Zone freaks out that the latest abortion bill to pass the Missouri House of Representatives has “only ONE reason” to exist—“shaming teens”—and has the effect of making them “second class citizens.” Democrat state Representative Genise Montecillo calls it“absolutely cruel.” Her fellow Democrat Stacey Newman said it forced teens to follow pro-lifers’ “religious beliefs.”

Whoa, it must be pretty bad if people who disagree can see only malice and theology instead of decent and secular motivations behind it. So what does this demonic legislation do?

It strengthens Missouri’s current parental consent law, which requires minors to get the permission of one parent for an abortion, by requiring that the second parent be notified (not give consent) as well.

Seriously, that’s it. It doesn’t reduce a teenager’s likelihood of getting an abortion in any other way. It doesn’t tighten the state’s relatively-weak parental bypass option, which does not require a judge to base his decision on specific criteria or the “clear and convincing evidence” standard. It just requires that both parents know that their child is making such an irreversible, life-altering decision.

Silent Scream

by Judith Alciatore

How can they do this, how do they dare
Destroying a life in God’s loving care
How do they live with what they have done
Stealing the life of a daughter or son

How can they sleep, how can they dream
They turn a deaf ear to the babe’s silent scream
Please stop this madness, for I tell you true
The baby’s as human as I or as you

The baby is real, though unseen in the womb
The life-giving cradle turned into a tomb
We must take a stand, be united as one
Or we, too, will answer for what they have done

Note: Below is the full version of The Silent Scream by Dr. Bernard Nathanson that I found on YouTube.  Comments below are by Clifford Sumner, who posted this video to YouTube.
"This video shows a live abortion. The unborn child struggles to escape as its heart rate rises over 200 BPM. To watch this video and not at least entertain the idea that the child is ALIVE denotes willful ignorance. To ignore this video proves your cowardice."

Michigan House passes bills to prevent abortion coercion

by Calvin Freiburger
Live Action News

On Thursday, the Michigan House voted 65-43 to pass two pro-life bills to protect women from being coerced into having abortions.

One would make it a felony to stalk or assault a pregnant woman for the purpose of pressuring her into an abortion, and the other would make it a misdemeanor to threaten to withhold legally-required financial aid or employment if she refuses to abort.

Prayer for our Supreme Court Justices

by Patricia Dowling
Voices for the Unborn

On Wednesday, I attended a prayer vigil in center city Philadelphia to support the  Little Sisters of the Poor. These nuns provide free, compassionate care for the elderly poor, and they are facing $70 million in government fines for refusing to violate their Catholic faith by cooperating in  the government's plan to expand access to contraceptives, abortion-inducing drugs, and sterilization through their healthcare insurance plan.

At the prayer vigil, the following invocation was prayed for our Supreme Court Justices.  I'm re-posting it here and asking everyone to use this prayer each day asking for God's intercession on these Justices.

This prayer comes from the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference.
Father of Mercy, in whose hands rest every human heart and the right of peoples:
Inspire, we pray, the Supreme Court Justices of our land so that freedom of religion might be upheld, not simply as the right to worship, but to live our faith in word and deed.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, and with the help of Mary, our dear Blessed Mother and Patroness of our Country.  Amen.

Pro-Life Group Organizes Good Friday Prayer Vigils Outside 70 Abortion Clinics Nationwide

 praytoendabortion5

By Micaiah Bilger
Life News

On Friday, Christians all across the U.S. will gather outside of abortion clinics for a special event to remember the innocent lives of unborn children lost to abortion.

Special prayer vigils called the Way of the Cross for Victims of Abortion coincide with Good Friday, the solemn day when Christians remember Jesus’s death on the cross to take away the sins of humanity.
The Pro-Life Action League, which is organizing the effort, began the Good Friday prayer vigils as a way to commemorate the deaths of nearly 60 million unborn babies who have been aborted in the U.S. since Roe v. Wade. The group compared Jesus’s suffering and horrific death on the cross to the suffering that unborn babies experience every day inside the nation’s abortion clinics.

“These children’s lives are ended, deliberately, before they even get to take their first breath,” Executive Director Eric Scheidler said. “As Christians, we seek Christ’s forgiveness for our sins. This sin of killing our own children is one of which our entire society must repent. If we cannot protect the child in the womb, we will never truly be a civilized, compassionate people.”

The non-denominational vigils will be held in front of about 70 abortion facilities in 28 states, including California, Illinois, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas, according to a press release from the group. More details about the prayer vigil times and locations are available on the Pro-Life Action League website.

Led by local clergy, the groups will go through the stations of the cross and meditate on Jesus’ crucifixion and the devastating effects of abortion on our nation. They also will pray for the unborn victims of abortion and their mothers, communities, abortion industry workers and abortion advocates.

Scheidler said they have seen prayers save unborn babies, heal women who are hurting and move hearts to compassion for unborn babies.

“More than 3,300 babies are put to death by abortion every day in the United States—even on Good Friday and it’s happening in our town, in every town,” Scheidler said. “This solemn day that has been revered for centuries is an ideal time for pro-life Americans to put their convictions into effective action.”

USAID Needs to Warn Women of the Dangers of Depo-Provera

It’s the Law, Yet Family Planners Routinely Fail to Provide Women with even Basic Information

By Steven W. Mosher and Jonathan Abbamonte
Population Research Institute

Despite mounting evidence of serious side effects associated with the use of injectable contraceptives, international aid programs continue to indiscriminately distribute Depo-Provera under various brand names worldwide.

Indeed, a coalition of family planning partners including the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, PATH (Program for Appropriate Technology in Health), and others are seeking to inject even more vulnerable women in developing countries with risky injectable contraceptives.

Like the injectable contraceptives that preceded it, the new one-time use injectable contraceptive—called Sayana Press—is intended to be administered by an unlicensed “community health worker” with minimal training, or even by women themselves.

True to form, the training materials and job aids used in Sayana Press acceptability studies fail to provide complete information on the possible side effects of the drug. This could constitute a violation of the Tiahrt Amendment which guarantees “informed consent.”

Priests for Life Father Frank Pavone Defends Faith at SCOTUS

by Dr. Susan Berry
Breitbart News Daily

Asked by Breitbart News executive chairman Stephen K. Bannon why he is so committed to the issue of life, Father Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, says: “About 25 years ago I came to a decision…to devote myself completely to the protection of unborn children. I came to realize…there is no tragedy greater in our nation today or in our world than this ongoing holocaust of abortion – nothing takes more human life.”
Pavone tells Breitbart News Daily the problem with abortion violence is that “the law is saying it’s okay.”

No Gurney: Barely Able to Walk, Planned Parenthood Patient is Lifted into Ambulance

By Cheryl Sullenger
Operation Rescue

Silver Spring, MD - An ambulance was called to the Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. in Silver Spring, Maryland, on February 25, 2016, for an African-American female who appeared hardly able to walk.

No gurney was used to aid the woman, who was in obvious pain. She walked out to the ambulance under the assistance of emergency responders and was partially lifted into the side door of the ambulance.

The doctor said he was “sorry” my twins had Down’s syndrome – but I wouldn’t swap them for the world

Abigail and Isobel Parry Started at a Mainstream School in September

National Right to Life

Editor’s note. Yesterday was the 11th anniversary of World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). NRL News Today ran many stories leading up to the anniversary and two more yesterday.

We will, of course, continue posting stories that affirm the intrinsic value of every human being. The following comes from our friends at SPUC–the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.

They are mum and dad to identical twin girls, Abigail and Isobel, who also have Down’s syndrome – the chances of which are two MILLION to one.Every child is special, and Jodi and Matt Parry know that even better than most parents

Jodi and Matt are open in admitting that when they first heard their children had been diagnosed with Down’s syndrome – three weeks after their premature birth in June 2011 – they felt it was a ‘life sentence’.

The first words the doctor said to them when they received the news were: “I’m sorry”

Jodi says:  The day our twin girls were diagnosed with Down’s syndrome it felt like a life sentence. That day, I didn’t feel like a mother. I just felt lost and confused. I had bleak visions of the future. I thought we’d be carers until we dropped dead.

Lack of support: Sadly, many families with a child who has a learning disability struggle to get the right support at the right time. This reinforces the negative stereotypes and fears that many people have about people with disabilities.

The doctor took us off the ward, into a bare, clinical side room with three chairs and then uttered the words that have remained stamped on my memory: ‘I’m sorry.’

Everything else he said that day is a blur, that ‘I’m sorry’, the first words that came out of his mouth, is the thing that stayed with us.

We had so many questions. Would the girls walk? Would they talk? We knew nothing about Down’s syndrome and left the hospital with no answers, no information, just fear and dread.

But now, nearly five years later, their family is flourishing. And Jodi and Matt say they want to spread positive awareness and provide support to other parents who may be feeling lost and confused.

24-Week-Old Baby Survives Abortion, Cries for an Hour While Left to Die

“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil,
but because of those who look on and do nothing.”  Albert Einstein

By Cassy Fiano
Live Action News

The abortion industry doesn’t want to admit that babies can survive abortion. They call it a myth and pretend it doesn’t happen — but it does. And what happens when babies do survive abortions is chilling. Too often, the babies are left to die, with no comfort or compassion, but alone and cold and in pain. This is exactly what just happened in Poland, where a baby with Down syndrome was the victim of a botched abortion, and was then left to die, crying for nearly an hour while doctors did nothing.

Doctors and medical staff at Holy Family Hospital in Warsaw, Poland, left a child to die after a botched abortion, according to local media reports detailing the horrific scene.

The baby was born on March 7, 2016 at 24 weeks, after an abortion failed. The child cried and screaming for an hour before dying, according to witnesses, as reported on Republika Television.

Medical personnel did not try to help the child in any way.

Hospital spokesperson Dorota Jasłowska-Niemyska explained that a patient at the end of the 23rd week of pregnancy came to the hospital, and her medical tests suggested that the baby had Down syndrome. The hospital claims that everything that happened thereafter was according to the law and medical procedures. The dignity of the patient and the dignity of the fetus were respected, she continued.

In Poland, abortion is illegal — except to save the life of the mother, in cases of rape in the first trimester, or if the baby has a “severe and irreversible handicap or an incurable and life-threatening disease.” In the third option, the baby can be aborted until the point of viability. But viability is not explicitly defined, so late-term abortions can happen, as long as the baby is considered to be disabled. It’s a despicable law that discriminates against people for the “crime” of having a disability.
