Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf Defends Killing Babies in Dismemberment Abortions

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf

What is most significant about Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf’s recent column for the editors of Time magazine is what the politician does not say (See here for the Governor’s perplexing piece.).

The op-ed ostensibly addresses PA Senate Bill 3, but it utterly fails to explain what the legislation is about. SB 3 is a commonsense measure which would ban the brutal practice of dismemberment abortions. In these particularly gruesome abortions, living babies are violently torn limb by limb from their mothers’ wombs, usually in the second trimester of pregnancy.

Wolf’s op-ed does not mention that a Communication Concepts poll conducted statewide in 2015 found that the vast majority of Pennsylvanians—Republicans, Democrats, and Independents—support a ban on ghastly dismemberment abortions.

In fact, support for the ban was higher among women than men. A decisive 64 percent of female respondents backed the ban, while 58 percent of males supported a dismemberment ban.  Even in Pennsylvania’s abortion capital—Philadelphia—56 percent of all respondents agreed a ban was necessary.

Nowhere in the Governor’s column do you find the words of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy—considered a “swing” vote on the abortion issue on the Court—who wrote,

“No one would dispute that, for many, D & E (dismemberment abortion) is a procedure itself laden with the power to devalue human life.” (Emphasis added)
Justice Kennedy wrote those words in the Supreme Court ruling Gonzales v. Carhart, the 2007 decision which upheld the federal ban on the equally outrageous practice known as partial-birth abortion.

Nowhere in the Governor’s column do you find the words of Dr. Jay Kellinson, an abortionist who once said of dismemberment abortion,
“That is the most horrifying procedure I can think about. There is just absolutely no way I would ever do that.”
And nowhere in the Governor’s column do you find the words of former abortionist Dr. George Flesh, who wrote,
“Tearing a developed fetus apart, limb by limb, is an act of depravity that society should not permit. We cannot afford such a devaluation of human life, nor the desensitization of medical personnel it requires.” (My emphasis)
Nor does the Governor mention that previously he volunteered as a clinic escort for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion operation (which commits more than 320,000 abortions a year). Therefore, not surprisingly, his column is a regurgitation of abortion industry talking points. In the Time piece, he does concede he doesn’t “pretend to know what’s best for a woman and her health.”
Certainly, being torn violently from her mother’s womb so she bleeds to death is not advantageous for the health of a baby girl.
