When Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Bob Casey, Jr. announced his opposition to the highly-respected Judge Neil Gorsuch for the U.S. Supreme Court, he proved he is on the wrong side of history.
The gifted and knowledgeable Gorsuch, who attended Columbia, Harvard, and Oxford, is dedicated to the fundamental principle that judges should rule according to the law and to the Constitution, rather than creating laws from the bench.
That is not a radical proposition. Indeed, it is the same viewpoint held by the venerable Justice Antonin Scalia, whose unexpected death led to the current vacancy on the High Court.
Gorsuch should be commended for being a champion of the Constitution. He is immensely qualified for the position of U.S. Supreme Court Justice, having served with distinction on the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals.
The Colorado jurist received unanimous support in the Senate for that august position. He deserves nothing less from the Senate this time around.
Senator Casey has judged wrongly in opposing the Gorsuch nomination. He has shown allegiance to a radical ideology that supports inventing rights not found in the Constitution. Casey's vote could cement the tragic U.S. Supreme Court ruling Roe v. Wade for decades to come. I hope it does not, and that the Pennsylvania Senator is overruled by his Congressional colleagues.
Roe has resulted in massive deaths--more than 59 million preborn children have died from legal abortion since 1973. The wrongly-decided ruling has led to unspeakable grief for millions of mothers, fathers, grandparents, brothers, and sisters.
Sadly, politicians such as Senator Casey are paving the way for more deaths and additional misery with votes against Supreme Court nominees who find no right to abortion in the Constitution.
This is just one more reminder to the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania that Senator Casey is not like his father, the late Governor Robert Casey, Sr., who fought valiantly against the political establishment in an effort to save the lives of preborn children--and to save their mothers from the devastation that abortion can cause.
Senator Casey has spoken. But it is increasingly difficult for him to claim that he is a pro-life officeholder, when his actions serve to protect not the preborn and their mothers--but the abortion industry and its legal allies.
Bloggers Note: Please continue to contact Senator Casey at both his Washington, DC and Philadelphia offices and urge him (politely) to not block the confirmation of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court.
Please call today or tomorrow as they expect this to reach the Senate by Friday. Senator Casey's numbers are:
Philadelphia - 215-405-9660
Washington DC - 866-802-2833
