Thousands of pro-life advocates will stand along streets across the country on Oct. 7 during National Life Chain Sunday.
The annual event brings pro-lifers together in their local communities to pray for an end to abortion and peacefully witness to the truth about life in the womb. Every year, nearly 1 million unborn children are killed in legal abortions in America, and organizers said the Life Chains are one small step toward ending the violence.
“Life Chain believes the end of legal abortion rests with us, the church, and that the forces sustaining the killing will yield when we repent and break the oppressive stronghold that blinds and subdues us,” organizers said in a news release this week.At least 1,500 cities are participating this year, according to organizers.
In 2017, pro-lifers in 1,548 cities and towns participated in Life Chains, holding signs that said Abortion Kills Children, Abortion Hurts Women, Adoption the Loving Option, Jesus Forgives and Heals, and Support a Constitutional Life Amendment.
While Life Chains are promoted as religious, prayer-oriented events, organizers said they also welcome non-religious pro-lifers to participate. Participants are encouraged to pray and/or solemnly reflect on the violence of abortion in a public place where they can witness to the truth about abortion in their community.
The Life Chain began more than 30 years ago in California, and quickly grew into a national and international event with communities in Canada and the United States participating.
A focus for the 2018 events, the organizers referred to 2 Chronicles 7:14, which states, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”They urged churches to commit to those words in the coming year, especially as they relate to abortion and the killing of unborn babies.
“Opinion polls confirm our desire for strong limits on abortion but not for the overturn of Roe v. Wade. To conquer that principality, we need the power that true repentance and righteousness provide: the power of transforming love for helpless, unwanted children who are targeted for death,” they commented.
“To that end, Life Chain is only one step, but it can be a very valuable step. Aware of that, satanic forces will prod the church in each locale to evade their sidewalk prayer chain on October 7,” the organizers concluded.
“So please, to all who value our Lord’s precious Little Ones (Psalm 127:3), reject the satanic proddings, join the local Life Chain, welcome God’s counsel, and pray that He will anoint and use mightily National Life Chain Sunday 2018.”More information is available at www.LifeChain.net [for location nearest you] and www.NationalLifeChain.org.
