Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina praised a pregnant teenager for choosing life Monday after they watched the teen’s unborn baby’s heartbeat on an ultrasound screen.
“You are a brave girl,” Fiorina told 17-year-old Jade Kennedy during a tour of a pro-life pregnancy center in Iowa. “You made the right choice, you know that, right? I can see in your eyes that you are excited for this. Good for you.”
Fiorina met Kennedy Monday at the Cradle of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, according to The Des Moines Register. The pro-life candidate watched as the young woman saw the image of her unborn baby on the ultrasound screen, the report states.
“Wow,” Kennedy said. “That heart beating, that flickering is the coolest part.”
Peggy Knudsen, the executive director of the pro-life center, told the newspaper that Fiorina’s visit was important because she is a good role model for their clients.
“She shows these women that if you have a goal, you can achieve it,” Knudsen said. “No matter what you can still achieve. Even with a baby on your hip you can still achieve anything you put your mind to.”
Earlier that day, Fiorina told a small crowd in Iowa why she advocates so strongly for life, according to the newspaper. Fiorina said when she was in college, her best friend had an abortion at Planned Parenthood.
“I remember they gave her no options,” Fiorina said. “And I remember what it did to her physically and emotionally. It was devastating. She was never the same.”
