Evangelist Franklin Graham is urging voters to consider the millions of children’s lives lost to abortion in America before they cast their vote in November.
The son of Christian evangelist Billy Graham, Franklin Graham wrote a strong message about abortion, the Hyde Amendment and Christian responsibility Friday on Facebook.
“God cannot bless a nation that embraces the murder of innocent children,” Graham wrote. “Abortion is murder—it is infanticide! It should not be paid for with our tax dollars.”Graham and thousands of other pro-life and Christian leaders spoke out against abortion on Friday to mark the 40th anniversary of the Hyde Amendment, a widely supported measure that bans most taxpayer funding for abortions in Medicaid.
Research from the Charlotte Lozier Institute found that the amendment has saved more than 2 million lives from abortion in the past 40 years.
Historically, the Hyde Amendment has received bipartisan support. Lawmakers have passed the amendment every year since 1976, and the Supreme Court upheld the Hyde Amendment and limits on taxpayer funding of abortions in 1980.
Recently, however, abortion activists, the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton have made it a top priority to repeal the amendment and force taxpayers to fund abortions. If they succeed, an estimated 33,000 more unborn babies would lose their lives to abortion every year in America, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion research group. Currently, about 1.1 million unborn babies are aborted legally in the U.S. each year.
Graham warned Christians about this new radical pro-abortion goal on Friday.
“Some political officials—liberals who call themselves progressives—are seeking to overturn the Hyde Amendment,” he wrote. “We need political leaders who will, along with citizens who value life, stand up for the most vulnerable and voiceless among us.”Life News article continues
